Sv.P.Muthu Koya vs S.V.Pookaya Thangal
The case features an island community with rich historical roots in the group of 36 islands that form Lakshdweep. Over the years the division of the old tarwad into thavazhies and sub-thavazhies raises the legal issue of the right of the thavazhies for the spiritual and temporal administration of the Mosque originally built by the older tarwad. The high court reviews multiple claims and appeals in lower courts and rules in favour of the mosque being administered by the original tarvad in the absence of any evidence supporting the relinquishing or division between the tarvad and sub-thavazies.
